A bout the Position:

An Accountant is needed to perform professional work requiring the basic application and use of concepts, theories, practices, and terminology of accounting. As an Accountant, you will process various financial documents and data, as well as analyze data and prepare internal financial reports consistent with a basic understanding of the institutional mission and vision, the role and goals of the business unit, and the tasks and responsibilities of the Accountant in the achievement of institutional and business unit goals. Guidelines and procedures are well established and a basic level of professional judgment is required.

You will assist in accounting and operational activity including preparing journal entries for approval and processing within the General Ledger, preparing account reconciliations, and assisting with preparation of internal and external financial reports. The strong candidate will have solid accounting knowledge, interpersonal skills, and ability to problem-solve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare adjusting, cash and accrual journal entries for approval and processing within the general ledger

  • Review routine invoice upload transactions for proper center and account coding;

  • Maintain and utilize payment processing logs and calendars

  • Ensure security of negotiable instruments such as issued checks and supplier refund checks

  • Review outstanding checks for escheatment determination

  • Accumulate, analyze, and summarize routine, detailed data in order to prepare routine statistical and financial reports and schedules

  • Maintain accuracy of Payment Services accounting records through regular analysis

  • Prepare Payment Services liability and clearing account reconciliations

  • Assist in preparation of internal and external financial reports and analysis

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study and two years of experience

  • Experience/exposure in higher education or not-for-profit environments

  • Knowledge of GAAP reporting requirements

  • Ability to work independently and in a team

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
