About the Positions :

Vanderbilt Campus Dining has a passion for providing excellent food at the highest levels of quality, value, convenience, and service; and we are looking to fill several Culinary positions within our Dining Department this summer. If you have a passion for providing great customer service, and enjoy connecting with students in a collegiate environment, this is a great opportunity for you. Ideal candidates will have previous experience working as a food prep worker or Cook, and enjoys working in a busy, high volume kitchen atmosphere and is capable of taking direction well and multi-tasking effectively

The pay range for the Culinary positions range from

$14.00 to $17.00 per hour

Flexible schedule is desired

Vanderbilt Campus Dining takes pride in the culinary creations served from our kitchens. Our Dining program is highly decorated, the winner of many prestigious awards in the food service industry, including Best On-Site Food Service Operation in the Nation, Best Food Service Operator, the prestigious Ivy Award, and many more. We have 4 main dining centers,10 restaurants and cafes, 6 convenience stores, and we employ over 300 employees.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Senior Cook:

  • Follow written production sheets and recipes.

  • Complete production and log sheets as assigned.

  • Identify production needs based on unit/area recipes and pars.

  • Take part in maintaining accurate inventory levels which may include ordering and receiving products.

  • Identify product needs based on forecasted guest counts and menu rotations.

Customer Service:

  • Lead by example and follow customer service standards outlined in the employee handbook.

  • Works in a team-driven environment, takes direction, delegates tasks and assists with problem-solving.

  • Understands Vanderbilt Campus Dining Meal Plans and has the ability to explain the guidelines of the plan to customers.

Safety and Sanitation:

  • Maintains quality, safety and sanitary standards of State and City Health Departments and Vanderbilt Campus Dining codes.

  • Maintains clean and orderly work area and complete other general cleaning duties.

  • Reports to management any safety hazards and equipment in need of repair.

Qualifications:

Ability to read Vanderbilt Campus Dining documents with or without accommodations

Complex recipe execution to include advanced culinary language, techniques and ingredient identification

Advanced knife skills (responsible for cutting proteins)

ServSafe Manager certification within 30 days of hire

AllerTrain U certification within 30 days of hire

Comfortable delegating complex tasks

Monitor proper daily production and unit documentation

Provide daily production and staffing updates to direct report or supervisor on duty.

Physical requirements:

Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. regularly

Ability to bend, stoop and kneel

These positions have required qualifications ranging from a high school diploma or GED to a diploma from an approved discipline specific program. Required experience ranges from 1 to 5 years of relevant experience.
