About The Position

Under the Dean of The Blair School of Music, the Director of Technical Operations position will be responsible for scheduling labor, supervising the construction of theatrical and operatic sets, creating and operating under a budget, and maintaining operational equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

a. Scheduling of labor for over 400 events annually including gathering technical needs' information, creating event timelines, staffing based on skill sets and event needs, advancing and enforcing rules of the facility, negotiating creation of content, and disseminating information to staff and clients.

b. Event planning

Continuous research and update on equipment in order to maintain industry standards including facility infrastructures

c. Maintaining equipment such as Genie Life, Gala Spiral Lift, Texas Scenic Orchestra shell motors and counterweight fly-rail system

d. Creating Operations budget based on needs and maintaining workflow within the operating budget

e. Working with scheduling office on feasibility of all bookings

Supervisory Relationships

This position will supervise a team of 5.


· Superior verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable presenting to and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders.

· The ability to work within a team environment is extremely important.

· Participation in OSHA courses, presentations, and relevant certifications is preferred.

· Ability to develop, recommend, accept, evaluate, and implement administrative and operational policies and procedures.

· Proficient use of modern office equipment and computer hardware; i.e., personal computers, printers, photo copiers, scanners.

· Knowledge and skills in use of modern computer software; i.e., ETC lighting language, critical recording techniques, and sound reinforcement.

· Ability to be adaptive and flexible with clients' needs.

· Ability to operate in a multi-tasking environment.

· Theatrical set construction experience.
