About the Role :

The Manager, Facilities & Services position provides management and supervision for the Facilities, Plant Operations, Locksmith and Sign Making Shop, at Vanderbilt University and is a manager responsible for supervising all personnel in the locksmith/sign making shop ; duties include planning, scheduling, organizing, and directing work; training of personnel; staff evaluation, praising, coaching, and discipline; shop organization; maintaining shop and equipment; making recommendations to leadership; and leading a safe and efficient operation. This position performs locksmith duties as needed to include installation and servicing of state-of-the-art electronic and stand-alone access control systems. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Operations of Plant Operations, the Manager, Facilities & Services will work as a partner and in collaboration with all departments throughout the VU campus on a daily basis.

The Manager, Facilities & Services Locksmith/Sign Making Shop Manager plans, schedules and assign the activities of the locksmith/sign making staff. The role will perform administrative duties such as completing payroll, conducting work performance conversations with staff, issuing discipline, implementing department policies and addressing employee issues/concerns.

About the Work Unit:

Plant Operations provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Administrative Duties:

Review work orders to determine materials, equipment and actions required, maintains records of material used

Maintain inventories of supplies and equipment, initiates requisitions for material and equipment

Maintains records of work performed, costs of jobs performed, and the time reports

Process time cards

Meet with employees to discuss work performance

Proactively address employee performance issues

Attends meetings/conferences; prepares reports for management as requested

Accepts additional administrative duties with a positive outlook and attitude as assigned

Supervisory Relationships :

This position has supervisor responsibilities and manages a staff of five.

Assigns work for keying and signs; checks work in progress; and inspects completed work of employees; supervises emergency work.

Monitors jobs to ensure quality and proper compliance with job standards. Trains in, and enforces safety regulations.

Qualifications :

A high school diploma or GED is necessary.

A valid Tennessee drivers license is necessary.

5 years of experience in appropriate technical filed is necessary.

5 years of supervisory experience is necessary.

Ability to engage and communicate with all levels of management and staff is necessary.

Ability to install and maintain locks, related hardware, and key systems is necessary.

Ability to use common hand tools, machine tools, and tools common to the locksmith trade is necessary.

Ability to key and rekey standard and master key systems is necessary.

Ability to generate and or expand a bitting list is necessary.

Intermediate level computer skills and ability to maintain key and lock database files is necessary.

Knowledge of access control systems including diagnosis and repair of electric strikes, electronic panic hardware, electromechanical locks, and magnetic locks is necessary.

Knowledge of job related software associated with electronic hardware is necessary.

Ability to maintain and repair various automatic door operators is necessary.

Ability to fabricate and install various types of signage using a computerized sign machine is necessary.
