Term Technical Technician - Civil and Environmental Engineering (Job Number: 1800721)
This is a full-time, exempt term position lasting six months to one year.
About the Position:
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Technician is part of the School of Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Vanderbilt University and is a key individual contributor that will be involved in all phases of research from experiment planning to data collection and analysis. This position will research, design, and select instrumentation and computer systems in support of research projects; install, test, calibrate, and maintain various sensing equipment; assist with the installation and testing of computer hardware; troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on computer hardware and other electronic and mechanical equipment; ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available when needed. The Technician will also assist with coordinating, conducting and analyzing experiments. This role reports directly to a Professor in the School of Engineering.

Vanderbilt’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department prepares students for entry-level positions in many specialty areas of civil engineering, as well as many other types of careers, such as business, construction, and law. At the graduate level, the department educates leaders in infrastructure and environmental engineering research and practice, with emphasis on the use of reliability and risk management. Development and application of advanced information systems as applied to civil and environmental engineering needs is an important part of the program.

Key Functions and Expected Performance:
Planning and conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data
Research, design, select instrumentation and computer systems in support of research projects
Assist with installation and testing of computer hardware; troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on computer hardware and other electronic and mechanical equipment
Ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available when needed
This position does not have supervisory responsibility; reports administratively and functionally to a Professor in the School of Engineering.
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering is necessary.
Experience and Skills:
- 12 months experience is necessary.
